Mixed Media Assemblage: Free Adult Saturday Storefront Art Classes May 15 - June 26, 2010 Artist / educator / writer Karen Darricades will be leading a 6-session workshop from for adults, 18 years and over, as part of our Saturday Storefront Art Classes. In this series, students will learn how to listen to what their art is saying to them by exploring various art media. Click here for more information. New Addition to Arts Etobicoke: Program Coordinators & Art Rental Consultant
We are very excited to announce the addition to our staff – Cass Reimer, Shira Spector and Graham Curry. Cass & Shira will be teaming up as the new dynamic duo Program Coordinators and Graham will be our new Art Rental Consultant. They offer a wealth of experience and commitment to community arts and their backgrounds bring Arts Etobicoke a broad and deep range of knowledge. From their work as practicing artists in visual art, performance, writing, film and theatre to their experience as educators, arts administrators and community activists. We are truly looking forward to working with Cass, Shira and Graham and the new perspective they will bring to Arts Etobicoke. Click here for their biographies. Art on the Move: Transforming vehicles into moving canvasses of art
Currently in Year 2, Art on the Move is a three-year community arts initiative developed by Arts Etobicoke and Lakeshore Arts that brings art to the streets of Toronto through vehicles adorned in art rather than advertising. Puppet & Theatre Workshop: Free Children's Saturday Storefront Art Classes November 16 - December 19, 2009 ![]() Artist / teacher Faten Toubasi is currently leading a 6-week workshop for children 8-12 as part of our Saturday Storefront Art Classes. In this workshop, children will create and perform a small puppet show by making puppets from papier-mâché and costumes. The classes will also include story telling and learning to manipulate the puppets. Supported by the Bank of Montreal. Click here for more information.

Laser Eagles: Celebrating Artists with Diverse Abilities October
7 – November 26, 2009 Inclusiveness, artistic expression, and unique community partnerships come together in the Laser Eagles Exhibition, on display at the Arts Etobicoke Gallery October 7-November 26, 2009. This is the second time that Arts Etobicoke has hosted this amazing group of artists. In 2007, we featured the work of Judith Snow (the founder of Laser Eagles) and ten other artists, and we are thrilled to work with this group again. Click here for more information.
35th ANNIVERSARY BASH: 35 Reasons I Love Art
![]() “Life is art and art is life. We need it like the air we breathe”. This was one guest's contribution to the "Reasons I Love Art" interactive display at Arts Etobicoke's 35th Anniversary Bash on July 24, 2008. Other guests expressed: "Art is what makes humans 4-D", "Science keeps us alive & art keeps us vital", “I love art because it brushes away the dust of everyday”, and our favourite, "I love art because of Arts Etobicoke." Over 200 people attended the 35th Anniversary Bash which featured tasty refreshments, historic photo displays, a selection of artwork from our Art Rental Collection and greetings and congratulations from Mayor David Miller, Councillor Gloria Lindsay-Luby, Laurel Broten M.P.P., Donna Cansfield M.P.P. and Boris Wrzesnewskyj M.P. The party also included the formal introduction of the 'Friends of Arts Etobicoke', a group of community arts champions from all corners of the arts world: Robin Duke (Comedien), Antanas Sileika (Author & Artistic Director Humber School For Writers), Michie Mee (Musician/Actor), and Earla Alexander (Visual Artist/Educator). A magical under-the-stars performance of Twelfth Night from the newly formed Humber River Shakespeare Company followed, and we capped the night with cake and champagne and a light and sound show from IMPACT (Indian Martial and Performance Art Collective of Toronto). We gratefully acknowledge the following donors: Argo.icc Reprographics, Calli Café, Steamwhistle Brewery, Shamrock & Thistle, Vanderfleet Flowers, Ma Maison, PS Group of Companies, Arcadia Academy of Music, Tapestry Village Gate West and Edible Arrangements. Twenty volunteers helped to make this event an outstanding success and we especially thank volunteers Karina Dahlin, Laurence Boucher, Tara Dunphy, Bernice Lang, Richard Keith, Alawna Brown and Jan Power. It was a beautiful celebration of a rich history where we acknowledged the talent and contribution of our members, community groups, staff and volunteers. We look forward to many more years ahead.
