2009 smART stART Student Art Show

Student Art Show Wows Sherway Shoppers

Thousands of Sherway Gardens patrons feasted their eyes on Arts Etobicoke’s 13th annual smART stART Student Art Show, an impressive and vibrant exhibition that ran from May 2 -9 in Sherway Square and included pieces by over 150 students across the GTA.

Students had the opportunity to showcase their work in a busy public arena, and on Wednesday, May 6, many of these budding artists met with seasoned professionals who provided instructive critiques, followed by a reception.

Open to students in Grade 9 through 12 within the Toronto District School Board and the Toronto Catholic District School Board, the Student Art Show is sponsored by Sherway Gardens and is designed to promote and encourage student participation and excellence in the broad spectrum of the arts.

Over 1500 patrons took the time to vote for their favourite piece of art in the People’s Choice Awards, sponsored by The Kiwanis Club of Kingsway Humber. Congratulations to the winners: Maria Kofman, Roxana A. Jakubowska, Mikaela Sword, Sam Riggi, Megan Bethune-Waddell Their schools will each receive $200 to be put toward their visual arts program.

Arts Etobicoke also gratefully acknowledges new sponsor Green Thinking Alternatives for their generous donation.  Visit http://greenthinkingalternatives.com/.
